Phi Eta Sigma Induction

I suppose this is college life...

The Induction was held on March 17, 2010.

In the years to come, we will look back on this day and be reminded of the memories we shared.

We Wear the Mask

We wear the mask that grins and lies,
It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes,
This debt we pay to human guile;
With torn and bleeding hearts we smile,
And mouth with myriad subtleties.

Why should the world be over-wise,
In counting all our tears and sighs?
Nay, let them only see us, while
     We wear the mask.

We smile, but, O great Christ, our cries
To thee from tortured souls arise.
We sing, but oh the clay is vile
Beneath our feet, and long the mile;
But let the world dream otherwise,
     We wear the mask!

- Paul Lawrence Dunbar

Old Times...

Oh I love these guys, and those not in this photo, for putting a smile on my face every time I think of them.

In Retrospect

It had been slightly more than a year since the time of this event. It wasn't entirely a bad trip, just a little miscommunication and a ball of misunderstanding. I believe for most of us, we still feel a little uneasy thinking and talking about it but I think it is time to let by-pass be by-pass.

Thailand trip was shit. But come on, it's funny! It was stupid funny. It was childish funny. How did we ever master all our logic to come to the kind of conclusions we had is in itself a funny thing. In retrospect, the first supper we had was great, though the room reek of the food smell afterward, but that supper rocked. We saw an elephant wondering the street, that to me wasn't entirely exciting but to some, oh yes kitty kat, was very exciting. The time we took the trishaw (motor-cab?), to bargain, and also, taking the stupid train which was way too expensive and inefficient, was hilarious. And we had quite a fulfilling seafood trip too. And yes how some of us horny bastards got our money cheated was in itself, quite a funny adventure.

Though I don't think we would live out of our embarrassments to tell our children this story, but perhaps one day. And when that day comes, I would gather all the kids in one room and let them in on the stupidity of their parents then. That should be interesting.

We have to realize that some of our fundamental qualities do clash: Opinions clash; decisions clash; personality clash; words clash; friends clash. Clashes are inevitably the result of our differences. It is in our nature that we are all different, but we shall never give up due to our differences, for those differences, my friends, sum up the whole dynamic of our group: so different; yet so similar.

In the core of our relationships, there lies a struggle between love and hate. We may bicker, we may fight, and we may ignore one another. But at the end, we must reconcile. We should not be blinded by our heats of anger and overlook the genuine quality of our best of friends. For countless of reasons - spoken or unspoken; acknowledged or taken for granted - we love and cherish one another. And above reasons, we have, at least I do, a belief that reminds us that these friends are the right ones. Friends don't just turn their backs on one another. And certainly not what a family would do to each other.

"We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection." - Abraham Lincoln

Winter Session

First day of winter session.
Philosophy and American Politics, ha, what a joke!

Oh and District 9 is such a sad movie. It's not something I would recommend to those starting their first day of school.
